Maths Championship 2020 Finals – Cancelled due to COVID 19!

The heats have now taken place and we are all looking forward to the finals on June 8th.

What an amazing 6 days the heats were. The competition this year was really high.

Well done to all the pupils who took part. Not only were they brilliant mathematicians and problem solvers but also a real credit to their schools. It was a pleasure to see everyone working so hard as a team.

As soon as the finals take place, I will update this page with the results, the prizes and the dates for 2020/21.

Thank you once again to Belle Vue for your continued support.

Good luck finalists!!

The highly successful Inter-School Maths Championship will take place at Belle Vue Primary School. There will be two age categories – Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6.

I devise and deliver an exciting range of mathematical challenges, puzzles and problem-solving tasks which pupils work through, in their school groups, to accumulate points. Staff members will be able to observe their pupils take part and can also have a go themselves if they wish. All ideas, resources and materials can be taken back to school to use with everyone.

The heats consist of 6 rounds. Each round will be explained to the pupils and they will have 15 minutes to work as a group to answer the challenges set. Each challenge has a set number of marks associated to it and pupils can achieve up to 30-40 marks per round. At the end of each round, the pupil’s work will be collected in ready for marking and teachers can spend a couple of minutes with their pupils. There will be a break after round 3. In previous years the rounds have included Target 24, KenKens, Shape puzzles, Countdown etc

The winners and runners-up of each heat will be invited to take part in the highly-regarded Maths Championship Finals. One school in each age category will be crowned winner and presented with a trophy. The schools placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd will also receive a range of prizes. In addition, individual pupils have the opportunity to win spot prizes.

  • Schools can enter one mixed-gender team in both age categories (Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6).
  • Teams include 6 pupils, with a minimum of 2 pupils from each year group.

Cost: £120 per school per age category (same as previous years)
